Thanksgiving recipes - Candied Sweet Potatoes/Yams


2 cups of water
2 cups of granulated sugar
4 tablespoon butter
1 teaspoon lemon juice
½ teaspoon nutmeg
¼ teaspoon cinnamon
8 small yams or sweet potatoes


1) Peel the sweet potatoes or yams and then slice them into ½ to ¾ inch circles. Rinse them in cold water and set aside.

2) Bring the water and sugar to a rolling boil in a medium size pot. Add butter, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg and potatoes.

3) Bring to a boil again, cover pot and reduce heat to a simmer.

4) Continue cooking for 45 more minutes or until the potatoes are tender. Stir the pot occasionally.

5) Pour into a large serving dish and serve.
